Marine Lizard Skeleton--KEICHOUSAURUS Guizhou Province

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm currently looking to purchase reptile material and found this Keichousaurus fossil from the Guizhou Province of China. It is being offered on a popular auction site. It is supposedly Triassic. Is this fossil genuine? Restored? Thanks for the help.

Thanks you both for your responses. Definitely liked the second one better, but had no idea the first was poorly prepped.

These are often prepped quickly, with wire wheel rotary tools.

While the prep is quick, it lacks quality, as the wire wheels grind down the bone as well as the matrix.  :(

This is evident when you look at the outer "aura" of the fossil, and can see the tool marks. Also when looking at the bones themselves. You can see what look like carving marks throughout the piece.

The bone is ground away, and they cover the whole thing with paint to make it look better.

Always ask for better pictures. A good seller won't mind supplying them.

It's beyond me why anyone would sacrifice quality for speed on a beautiful specimen.

For sure. But I would think you could get more money by prepping it right and you won't be up a perfectly good fossil.

Another pat of the equation is that there are so many of these K's available from China...

Hi, the item arrived significantly earlier than expected. Seller was willing to negotiate. Packaged carefully.
