bockryan
Hi everyone - found an interesting rock in the deck gravel at my parent's house in Michigan, fossils turn up there pretty often and from the outside this one had an interesting look, I gave it a cut and a quick polish and wonder if it's a stromatolite? They do appear in MI fairly commonly across a bunch of different formations from what I understand, what do we think? We are in the lower portion of the state where most of the fossils are Devonian, but the gravel could be from far away so not certain
Arizona Chris
Does it fizz in vinegar and thus made of limestone? or is it volcanic tuff or rhyolite.... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Arizona Chris Paleo Web Site: http://schursastrophotography.com/fossiladventures.html

It does seem to fizz in diluted acid, would those other possibilities be entirely inert or would they fizz slightly as well?
Arizona Chris
Then it would be made of limestone or dolomite. that means it is possible to be a stromatolite. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Arizona Chris Paleo Web Site: http://schursastrophotography.com/fossiladventures.html
