Fossilized coral?

Another one I hoped to get some clarity on.

Found on the beach in Staten Island, N.Y.

 

Maybe honeycomb fossil but if anyone is familiar with this, I'd love to learn more. Thanks again!

Looks like a coral to me :Smiling: A lot of the fossils on Staten Island are actually transported from elsewhere in Upstate New York/North Jersey. My bet is this comes from somewhere up there.

I suspect this is a modern scleractinian coral, quite likely dropped by someone (an aquarium discard for example).
