S.B
I just bought this megalodon tooth online, and I was wondering if someone could help me out and see if it’s real. My main concern are these notches/dents on the sides of the tooth (close to the root). It kind of makes it seem like it’s been molded. I’m not sure if this is natural or not. jcbshark
I’d say that looks completely normal. Nice tooth 1 1 2 Every once in a great while it's not just a big rock down there!
snolly50
It looks like a fine example to me. If you are concerned about any portion of it formed with monkey business - apply a red hot needle. If it is of unnatural material, you may see a reaction. Good luck, have fun. 1 1 Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, also are remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. - Douglas Adams, Last Chance to See

But, it's always best to fully explore all of the visual possibilities and variances of any fossil before making a purchase.
