Is this a fossil?

Flies and Fossils

Recommended Posts

I peaked down while fishing in southeast Minnesota and this interesting rock or maybe fossil caught my eye. This is limestone bluff country.

Please share your thoughts on whether or not it’s a fossil and if so, what type it might be.

Leaning towards geologic structure, photos at other angles would help.

It rises up only about 2mm from the host rock at the deepest point.

Perhaps a trace fossil or an imprint of something? It certainly does have an interesting structure. Even if it is of geological origin, it would still interest me to learn how it might have been formed if someone here in the forum has the necessary knowledge to explain this.

It looks more like feature that formed in sediment by shallow flowing water to me. The appearance being influenced by the way it was subsequently exposed.
