Hello all, I just found this bone/fossil in big brook NJ. It is about 3 cm long. I originally thought it was a modern bone, still a neat find, but then after further inspection I found it was not porous and thought it might be a fossil. Anyway any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

You can try the burn test, to see if it is modern. Hold it to a flame. If it gives off a smell or burns, it is modern.
If no harm or smell, then it is a fossil.

From the look, I would guess that it's modern. If it seems denser than bone should be, that could be an indication that it is a fossil though.

Assuming it passes the test given above that is. :)
