Hello,

While rock hunting in SE Wisconsin on the Lake Michigan shoreline, I came across this bone. Any thoughts?

It looks to be a vertebra  and maybe recent.  I would do a burn test  thatvis hold it in the flame from a gas stove and see if it chars and smells bad if so it is modern

If you don't have a gas stove, you can perform the test with a standard butane lighter. If it exudes a nasty smell reminiscent of burnt hair, this suggests the presence of collagen, which would mean it is likely modern.
