johnnyvaldez7.jv
I found this tooth today. It has a stylid which leads me to BOS or Bison. From what I read....Camels didn't have stylids, is that right? The chewing surface seemed kinda like a camelid tooth. Also... there appears to be another stylid on the side of the tooth not down the center like I've seen. It's a much smaller one. Is that normal? Was looking at other pictures online of stylids and didn't see one on the side like this. I do believe it has some age to it. Not sure how old tho. Size is 33 mm across or 1.3". Size is 51 mm front to back or 2" Found on a river gravel bank here in SE Texas where I find Pleistocene material.
johnnyvaldez7.jv
I was thinking cow but from some of the reference images for cow teeth I've seen there is something inside the chewing surface whereas this seems empty.
Harry Pristis
I'd say Bison based on the striations I see on the enamel. Atractive specimen. 1 1 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
digit
Yup. That's the prettiest bison tooth I've seen--so much more colorful than in Florida where the phosphate stains them blackish-gray. Cheers. -Ken 1
johnnyvaldez7.jv
@Harry Pristis @digit I found this fragment today. Had it been complete... I think this might have been more attractive of a specimen.
digit
I think we actually had a fossil topic here for people to post their blue fossils. Here it is, started over a decade ago. This one certainly belongs in that topic. http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/31100-show-us-your-blue-fossils/ Cheers. -Ken 1
