Danielb
Hi I was on a friends property near Boulder and golden Colorado and found ripples from water. When I looked closer it looked like there were scratch marks possibly from a dinosaur. When I looked on a geologic map it said the age was creatacous. I’m just wondering if it could possibly be scratch marks from the beasts the used to wander the earth. I think the formation is the Dakota formation. Any help would be appreciated. Desrosiers1718
Looks like weathering to the rock over the years.
jpc
certainly ripple marks... sandy bottom of a beach environment. The scratch marks seem pretty subtle. There are dozens if not hundreds of critters that leave traces in shallow sand bottoms. Dinosaur, maybe, but much more likely some sort of marine invertebrates. Rolling pebbles and seaweed tossed about by waves can also leave marks. And as mentioned above, it could also be erosional.
