Strange Things I Can't Identify

Hi! I just joined and I have a few items that I can't identify. The first two are what I assume to be some sort or bone. They are both very dense and have a dark core. The larger piece is approx. 3 inches and the smaller one is approx. 2 1/4 inches. The third is strange because at first I thought is was part of a shark tooth but then the ridges sort of threw me off. The last is a small black thing. It is light and rather polished. All of the items were found on Cockspur Island, Georgia (Ft. Pulaski) which is located on the Savannah river, about 2 miles away from where the mouth of the river meets the Atlantic Ocean. They were all found on land in areas where dredge material from the the deepening of the river was placed. If needed I can try to get some better pictures. Thank you!!

The first two items are pieces of bone, due to their fragmentary status they are unable to be identified as to what species they belonged to. The third item is a small section of mammoth tooth. The third item is a fragmentary fish or shark vertebra.

Hey, I'll be on Tybee next week, do you mind me asking where the dredge piles are? Are they on the northeast tip of Cockspur? Thanks.

If you go to Cockspur Island the best places to look are on the raised paths/historic ###### that create a loop around the fort. Specifically the ones that are in the wooded areas. At the Northwest corner of the vistor's center parking lot there is an entrance that leads you to the battery and other intersecting paths. Keep your eyes open because lately I have been noticing a lot of interesting things in the sand. I'm sorry if this may sound confusing, but the best area is right where the loop intersects a wooded path. Here is a picture with the are marked off:

The area will have fair amounts of sand exposed and you kind of have to dig around.

There is one other path that is worth giving a try. If you walk towards the Historic North Pier you will notice a sandy path to the left of a few palm trees. This area is pretty sandy and things might show up. If you remain on this path it will take you to an area that has beach access and if the tide is low, it is a great place to find things! The beach access path is about a 1/4 mile west of the pier.

Good Luck!
