LoneRanger
Going through cabinet drawers, found these unknowns mixed in with shark teeth from Aurora NC (Miocene, Pliocene), so I assume that's where these were found. Scan shows there are two different shapes: on left are odd, elongated triangular pieces; on right are pieces with two thick "bumps". Your ideas about these are appreciated. The elongated one on the bottom, and the far left look like gar armor scales. Dave Bowen Collin County, Texas. Paleontology: The next best thing to time travel. LeeCreek2thHntr
They're pufferfish gill plates. Cool finds!
LoneRanger
Excellent help from all: from Elasmo website, appears that they're puffer (Sphoeroides hyperostosus) preoperculum and suboperculum (subparts of gill plates).
