Gastropods: Puerto Rico

Recommended Posts

I found this rock at a nearby creek here in Cabo Rojo,Puerto Rico. The rock is approx 8x6 inches. There are some gastropods here that look like something else. One looks like a Squid and another looks like a horseshoe crab and the other looks like Howard Cosell,Lol. Does anyone know if the first two I mentioned can be what they look like?

Hello, and Welcome to the Forum!:D

I don't think they are what they look like - just gastropods fossilized in a peculiar manner, or orientation is different in the surrounding matrix..

(You're looking at snails that were bisected or halved, either lengthwise or widthwise by weathering.)

Although, the Howard Cosell is kinda freakishly accurate!

Neat find,... and Welcome, again!

Regards,

Thanx for the quick reply. The Howard Cosell fossil came to me almost immediately after labeling the one that looks like a squid. You're right....it is freakishly accurate. Thanx again.

To me they look like cross sections of sevral streight cepheopods (squid in a shell).
