Found by a 14 year old :)

How cool is that?

THANKS! I had to capitalize that because I have a number of associated vertebrae strings that are in the .75mm to 1.5mm size range that look very similar. Now all i have to do is take the vertebrae to the sternberg and compare them to this eel. If they turn out to match, I'll have to donate them due to the rarity, of course.

Sounds like a good excuse to plan a trip to Western Kansas!

It's always interesting to see something new out of the Niobrara formation!

Thanks again for posting this article! :goodjob:

Very cool, Kris! That specimen is in fantastic shape too!

Thanks Roz! I was fortunate enough to get to visit the specimen about two years ago- still in great shape and in a good home.

I've always liked checking to see if big shells protected smaller fossils. Yours was an awesome find, Kris. Congrats.

Thanks! Do you know if there have been any fish/clam associations found in Texas?

I wouldn't be surprised if there have been some found, but I haven't discovered any, yet.

Oh yeah, love seeing both of them! I am pretty sure these are the only eel

fossils I have seen so it's an extra treat for me! It looks like yours was preserved

better.
