Too bad that 99.9% of the Chinese bird fossils in circulation in this country are either composits or outright fakes; I'd love to have a real one! There is evidence of mass mortalities from volcanic events, similar to the Florissant Fossil Beds in Colorado. Obviously, conditions for preservation were perfect: quick burial in non-turbid, low oxygen waters.
