Too bad that 99.9% of the Chinese bird fossils in circulation in this country are either composits or outright fakes; I'd love to have a real one! Auspex Posted May 5, 2008 Share Posted May 5, 2008 These fossils, extraordinary in both their preservation and their abundance, are coming from lacustrine deposits. There is evidence of mass mortalities from volcanic events, similar to the Florissant Fossil Beds in Colorado. Obviously, conditions for preservation were perfect: quick burial in non-turbid, low oxygen waters.
