regainfreedom
Hi, I have recently purchased these fossils but I am not sure what these are except that they are from Indonesia. One appears to be of a partial tooth of a stegodon? I have added a link of some stegodon tooth below. The other one appears to be a jaw of a fish or lizard? http://www.indiana9fossils.com/Vertebrates...th/Stegodon.htm Anyone have any ideas what these fossils are? Thanks

Thanks The 2nd looks like it could be the distal portion of a shark finspine to me, maybe Hybodus or a chimera. Check here to see if it matches up well with some finspines: http://www.buriedtreasurefossils.com/other_sharks.htm ---Wie Wasser schleift den Stein, wir steigen und fallen---

regainfreedom
i agree it looks like a Hybodus shark spine Hi! Yup, it looks like a Hybodus shark spine, but this fossil measures about 3 inches. So is it possible to be a Hybodus spine?

Yes your specimen appears to only be the distal half or so. The basal portion would be the hollow U-shaped end without those "teeth" where the finspine attached onto a wedge of cartilage. -steve ---Wie Wasser schleift den Stein, wir steigen und fallen---
