Scute? From Big Brook Nj

Found in the cretaceous of big brook, NJ

Its a concretion. Big Brook is notorious for these things which can be confused easily with fossils if you are not familiar with them. You would be able to see the porous bone structure inside if you had a croc or turtle scute.

If it is Cretaceous bone it would usually be black from Big Brook. Turtle and croc ccutes also are flat with more regular divots. Generally if you have a doubt as to whether or not it is bone, it probably isn't. Usually even the smallest scrap of bone you would know is bone right away. If you have better pictures I will take a look, but I'd say there is very little chance of it not being a concretion.
