Orthacanthus Nearing Completion

RCFossils

Recommended Posts

For all of you shark lovers out there. After 200+ hours of prep, my Orthacanthus project is almost done. The fossil is from the Permian of Germany.

Orthacanthus was an eel like freshwater xenacanth shark. This specimen if complete would have measured over five feet in length.

I will post a few more pictures when prep is finally finished.

Bravo well prepared....but where is the missing part up to the tail?

Did you find the fossil yourself or did you buy it in Germany?

I´ve heard that the biggest Orthacanthus ever found had been a little bit more than 3 m...!? 5 m is too long

Oh yes - SORRY- you are right...... 5 feet maybe nearby 1,5 m or 1,65 m - than it will have been a small one - maybe a male , they are not as big as the female.

One of my Orthcanthus 7.25 feet - it´s not really complete - I had to complete some small pieces at the breast fin and tail fin ...but I think it´s okay (300 hours +) - this one is from the location Niederkirchen/Rhineland-Palatinate.

*jaw drops*

:envy: Not only do you have a near-perfect specimen of a quite rare shark, but you have a room FULL OF IT.

@hauyn888 You won't believe it, but someone just broke into your house! And that person stole all of those amazing sharks and fish fossils you had!

Definitely wasn't me :ninja: And no, those shark and fish fossils in my room aren't yours :headscratch:
