Porpious Jawbone?

I found this today and I think its some kind of Porpoise jawbone or some other marine mammal jaw bone. The last pic is end on with the holes facing down.

P.S. the pathological maco in the background of the last pic is shown more closely in my post in the hunting trips section.

Hi there,

You definitely have a jaw or rostrum fragment from some kind of small odontocete. It is definitely not from a true porpoise (unfortunately, porpoise seems to be a term people use for all small odontocetes in the fossil record; porpoises are a separate, well defined family of odontocetes with very distinct cranial morphology). I'll take a look later this evening and see if I can ID it to a family.

That would be great, I'm probably going to put it in my display case and I wouldn't want to label it as a "porpoise" improperly if I can get a better ID on it. Otherwise it might end up labeled as a "Porpoise like jawbone"
