Northern Sharks
A friend of mine from Edmonton Alberta sent me a photo of a claw he has thinking I might identify it for him. It's not my area of expertise, so I hope someone here can help. He isn't even sure it's a real fossil, so I told him about the hot pin test. The claw measures 2 1/2 inches tip to tip or 3 1/4 inches around the outside curvature. Somebody told him it was a bear claw, but to me it looks more like dino. Please let me know what you think, as well as any other tests he could do to check it's authenticity. Auspex
If it helps, I Googled a couple images. The (grizzly) bear claw has a very different shape to the articulating surface; the dino claw (baryonix) is closer. MOROPUS
Clearly, a dino claw;that line taht goes from the root onto the point,is not normally seen in mammals (i`ve never see it!). But is it a cast? It looks like it,and it is "drilled"and attached to some kind of pendant or neclace.Look on the upper part of the picture. Are you sure is a real fossil? It`s perfect, and I wouldn`t never do such a thing to a such qualyty fossil stuff. It is a museum quality specimen!
bone digger
sure looks like a cast to me, but it's not the best photo to go by
