sward
While searching a dry creek bed in the Mainstreet & Grayson (Kgm) formation of DFW, TX, I found this vert that I have not yet been able to identify. I'm confident this sample is not fosslized. However, while researching, I found this old link on the TFF of some fossilized verts that very closely resemble the vert I found. http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php/topic/16930-la-brea-vertebrae-in-matrix-nice-display/page__p__186981__hl__%2Bpleistocene+%2Blimb__fromsearch__1#entry186981 Does anyone know if these were ever identified? tracer
look at cat-like lumbar vertebrae. the "starfighter" transverse processes are characteristic of those.
sward
Tracer, Thanks! Now that I know what to narrow the search down to, I am able to find very similar examples. I was searching for every kind of vert, I guess except cat. I have no idea how you're able to recognize these so quickly, but I'm glad you're so helpful. tracer
i'm not that helpful. it was only a generic comment. the problem with narrowing the search is that the vert size could include a lot of species.
