That looks like one of those teeth that was watermelon-red right when you dug them out, but within a minute, they faded to that color.  It's a cool color too.

Here's one of the first STH teeth in my collection.  In 1989, before I met Bob Ernst, another local collector invited me to dig with him at sites near Round Mountain Road.  I think they were a little west of Ant Hill.  It was the first time I dug the layer so I don't recall the precise location.  As I recall, this tooth was a gift and I bought a nice Allodesmus postcanine tooth as well.  The Allodesmus tooth color has faded a little.  I remember more orange in it.  This C. planus tooth does not appear to have lost any color.  It's just over 2 inches.  At the time I didn't know how generous a gift it was.

@siteseer That is a fantastic planus, what a beautiful example!!

Thanks @fossilsonwheels

@Woopaul5 excellent addition, thank you!! The 2 lowers look like hastalis teeth, the first is a right lower anterior (looks like in the picture the left lobe is slightly worn meaning it would have been a bit more elongate), the second is a left lower lateral.

Thanks for the correction. I’ll change the labels shortly

It would be nice if for each tooth presented in this post, it is specified the age of the fossil because not everyone is familiar with the formations ;)

I’ll try in the future but I’m not keen on age of all the formations of what I have. Some I don’t even know the formation
