Shellseeker
Originally, there were 5, but we ended up with Shellseeker, Peace Fossil, and Meglodon Hunter combining a float trip, with prospecting for gravel in deep water with fast currents, and hoping we could find a few goodies to post. I leave some of the ups and downs stories for PF and MH to relate and look forward to them posting some finds. We stopped in 3 spots, The first was just pure luck probing with a kayak paddle close to shore. We found mostly small >1.25 inches, but very colorful (blues and olive) with sharp serrations. There were a couple of very small makos and megs. The 2nd stop had almost no shark teeth, but PF found a 3-toed molar, which was very pretty and I picked up a collection of mammal teeth, glyptodont, giant armadillo you see below. 3rd spot at the end of the day was pretty well cleaned out. It was windy with high water -- we had wetsuits on which helped. All in all a fine day, but my muscles are sore from shoveling and kayaking DOWNSTREAM.. On the photos, I thought I had horse and camel (p3) molars both in the same sieve. Then I thought 2 camel molars, and finally realized that I could not match one of them to pictures of Camel teeth. So I look for IDs.. I love the Glypto osteoderm, and it seems broken but not sure quiet how because no obvious breaks. It is indented on the bottom. Maybe a tail osteoderm> Finally, a worn and interesting Vert -- most verts I find in the peace are porpoise, but looking for confirmation. Thanks for all replies. Cris
Hello Shellseeker, The teeth look like horse and broken bison. The osteoderm is definitely from an odd position, maybe the tail, edge of the shell or near the head. Looks like a pretty good day! Congrats. peacefossil
That doesn't look like my horse tooth Great day to be on the water with fossil friends. Bad day to be me. Picked up a kayak forgot the seat at home. Lost all my best finds including mako, hemi, all with nice brown, beige, non standard color. I'll only say this... make sure you have a sealed collection bag in fast moving water. I did manage a nice little meg. The rest of what made it home is pictured here. Shellseeker
Peace Fossil, Here is your 3-Toed Horse tooth from yesterday. First 2 pictures. Note the clearly isolated protocone.. Cris, T Thanks for the IDs, It may be Bison, but I can not see the break area in these pictures of the "sides". Even side#1 seems to have enough enamel. Could it be a premolar rather than a molar, making it (almost) the complete tooth? An upper bison premolar would be my best guess.
Megalodon_hunter
This is what I found that day. Sorry for the delay but I don't have a decent Macro Camera. "One of these day's I'm going to find a tooth over 3inches."
