My father found this tooth in a stream bed in Davis Co. Iowa. Could anyone tell me any information about it, and if there is any reason to doubt that it originated here.

An extinct Mackeral Shark from the Cretaceous; certainly a rare find in Iowa!

Yep, it could be possible, the tooth does look reworked as well. Do you know anythin about the age of exposures in the area?

DO, or do not. There is no try.

I think there is an article on Late Cretaceous marine vertebrates of Iowa but it doesn't appear I have a copy. Fossilselachian might know the article.

I know Mississippian-age teeth used to be found in the Burlington Limestone around Augusta.

Sorry Jess (and others) but I don't have a copy of the referenced article.
