Roz
I found an interesting fish nodule that I found several weeksafter I found the brain endocast.. To make a long story short,it ended up at the AMNH (American Museum of Natural History)for a CAT scan.. The first image was just emailed to me and Ireceived permission to use it to share on the forum.. Therewill be more images later..Here is some of what was said in the email..."Here is the dorsal view of the 3D reconstruction of the osteichthyan braincase from Texas (arrow indicates what we thought to be the brain). This is an early result and I will improve the reconstruction later. Nevertheless, it is already enough to see that...unfortunately no brain is preserved. What we thought to be a brain is actually the external surface of the right dorsal part of the endocracranial cavity..However, the braincase and the endocranial cavity are quite well preserved in 3D, so this specimen will certainly provide good results concerning the internal and external anatomy of this fish".First pic is the fish nodule I found.. It was the size of a nickel(larger than a penny). Sorry I didn't take the original pic witha good indicator of size.. Second Pic is the CAT scan image..The above image is with the AMNH's permission.. Wish I could some of my nodules CAT scanned If you find any that you think might look promising maybe you could post them and then go from there..
