MikeD
Hey John, this post got bumped today and I thought of your mystery jaw/spine. http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?showtopic=1363&st=0entry27830 Scroll down to last picture and check out the pectoral fin spine on the catfish skull. Not close up enough for a lot of detail, but interesting.
hybodus
John, I know someone that works for a University in TX that specializes in Eocene Vertebrates, including Texas Eocene. Send me a PM if you are interested and I will give you his contact info. Sorry for being vague, but I probably should not give the info out on the forum... Further, I remembered a very cool site at the University of Texas digimorph. Check this one out. I think the ID is a some kind of catfish pectoral spine. Thanks for your help. JohnJ
Mike, I think the "fat one" in the clam above is a broken Odontaspis tooth. The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ
Oh-Man
Hey OwenDidn't know you were a saltwater fiend like me. I still haven't caught one of those 50 inch black drum. Feb-April at Ingleside would probably present my best shot. I plan to take the boy to the coast as soon as the conditions are good for a small boat. We'll pitch some live shrimp in the channels and at pilings and see if we can boat some puppy drum, sheepshead, etc. Dan - I was stationed at Ingleside for 4 years in the mid 90's and saw or heard of at least a couple of 80+ pounders being pulled up every winter. Caught some great flounder in the turning basin, too, once upon a time. All my bigger reds were out off the old runway by the softball fields in Aransas Pass. O What is geology? "Rocks for Jocks!"
