Shellseeker
Was out today and found some nice fossils -- Lower and upper Hemis, Deer Molar, Glyptodont Osteoderm, a possible camel tooth. I will post photos in another thread. I know most of the fossil teeth I find -- too small to be sloth but the occlusal view seems like sloth, I also checked on Armadillo --- So no clue on my part --- but some on TFF can ID this tooth. Harry Pristis
My best guess is that this is an islet of enamel from a mammoth tooth. You can see examples on this mammoth spit tooth. http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
Shellseeker
Thanks, Harry ....when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth This specific islet had to split away from the connecting tooth material on all sides. Is that correct? It does seem to match texture of mammoth tooth and the chewing surface seems to match, plus there are no other obvious options.
