A couple of finds, a couple of questions:

I have found dolphin teeth, but this one seems different than the ones I normally see -- Is this just a different dolphin tooth position, or some other marine mammal?

On the 2nd fossil, I have found LOTS of turtle shell, and never one patterned like this one. I originally thought it was a pigeon -- as in clay pigeon... Can one of the turtle experts ID the type of turtle? Most of the pretty pattern turtle shells are from mud turtles.

Thanks for all responses

The disk fragment kind of looks like a "cookie". The tooth is interesting, and JPC brings up a good point. Could it be a patho?

DO, or do not. There is no try.

Mike, my eyes have opened  -- it could be a cookie, not turtle... It has a curved edge. Once again , I have found a whale Intervertebral disk and it did not have this pattern -- maybe others have seen this concentric rings patterns in their cookies!!!

Agree with both JPC and you, this marine tooth might be pathological dolphin tooth -- Could it be a seal incisor/canine? I have looked at other threads on TFF and there is a similarity? Need Bobby on this one. http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php/topic/24250-seal-tooth-from-gmr/

I have several dolphin teeth from Lee Creek with very large roots like that and also with curves like it also(big and small root) I have always been told by the museum staff there when I find one with a large root that it is from a very old dolphin. As far as the curve, I think it may be mouth position or maybe species. But I really don't know. As far as it being seal, while I cannot say no for sure, I really do not believe it is.

It's a dolphin tooth. Generally, there isn't a difference in tooth shape from front to back of the mouth by the Late Miocene. Is it from Lee Creek? If so, is it from the Pungo or the Yorktown? Like Sixgill Pete, I have seen similar teeth from Lee Creek (and maybe the Calvert Cliffs).

As for the second specimen, it looks like it could be a worn piece of a shark vertebra but I'm not sure.

Thanks to all -- successful and expert responses. I can "see" my tooth as a worn version of the dolphin tooth on the left of Harry's picture and the other fossil "might" be a cookie/disk but if so, it is 5 inches in diameter.. I will enjoy that possibility for a while. SS
