I have to wonder, though, why the Cultural Heritage Institute has power of administration over a 1.8 million year old fossil bed? (Not a lot of culture in Venezuela back then). Tar pits do produce a lot of well preserved specimens, which makes me wonder... some time ago I heard of tar pits in western Canada somewhere. Wonder if they have produced any fossils?
