having a useless flexible tripod that came with a camera kit, and an equally useless inexpensive headband light, I now am the proud owner of an adjustable mini stage light for my camera set up.

now it reminds me of a war of the worlds machine :)

thanks guys, I would rather have money than adapt, but no doubt I'd still be taking things apart for fun...The light really did solve the sidelighting issue I was having, when I have trouble giving indistinct fossils an "edge", a couple more might be ideal... :)

i should say, I cut it till it was a fairly balanced unit, then made a hole with a drill/file/awl of the above, then screwed an appropriately sized retainer to keep the camera mount thread/ fitting tight :)

now it reminds me of a war of the worlds machine :)

This makes me happy because ...

“No one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man’s and yet as mortal as his own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns they were scrutinised and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a man with a microscope might scrutinise the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water.” ('War of the Worlds' p.1)
