I found a nodule today that had a natural fracture so I tapped it

with the hammer and I think it is most of a fish.. The only pic

that is taken without a loupe is the one with the key.. I

am wondering if it's possible to tell what is the front of the fish

and which is the back.. Unfortunately it is in rough shape (some of it).

I cannot tell because I see small fin areas in several places.. Is it

the fish minus the head?

I'm no headless fish expert, but fossildude19 is :P The detail in that fossil so well preserved, I hope it is a fish.

I can't make heads or tails of it...( :P)

Pennsylvanian, I presume?

It looks like the regurgitation piles we often find in our Muncie Creek nodules.

The colors are really cool.

I can't make heads or tails of it either, Auspex .. :D:P

That is a fin though? I see small fins also although not sure you can see in the images..

I never thought of regurgitation but that would explain why it's so messed up in

presenting a whole fish (minus the head I was hoping)

Actually Roz - looks like the ornamentation I see on some of my fish skulls. I think that's an element of a fish skull there.

Good eye. I would have never guessed what it is. Looks like a fingerprint!

Thanks all! :)

Tim, I should have recognized that piece of ornamentation as I have seen a few

pieces but not this large so I assumed it was a weird shaped fin.. A very curious

place to have it.. Makes one wonder what purpose it served if any..

And Bob, it does resemble a fingerprint now you mention it..

Yes, Auspex, Pennsylvanian in age..
