I just measured mine and found it was 1.5" too small, half the size it needs to be.

I must now make a fake scale to make it seem bigger.... :P

Yeah, hastalis survived from about the Middle Miocene to the end of the Miocene (maybe 11 million years) but great whites have been around only since the beginning of the Pliocene, or about 4.5 million years.

Hey Rick, I think I saw this tooth at the last fossil festival in NC? Did you have it in your pocket? If so, then we met and didn't even know it... LOL. I was standing at a booth looking at something and this guy walks up... after a few exchanged pleasantries he shows us this tooth... 3+" GW that he found in GMR recently... I made a trip to GMR the next day in hopes of finding my 3"er... :) No such luck... lol

I remember seeing Kevin's (OB1) after he found it... Those are some amazing teeth you guys have!!

History will be kind to me for I intend to write it.

I feel sorry for GMR if Mike doesn't find one... The city should hire Mike to start at the head of GMR and dig to the Tar River... He could single-handedly clean that creek out!!! I've never seen a human move so much earth without machinery!! My fingers are crossed for you Mike. :fistbump:

While realizing I don't qualify for the club...we need some more juicy GW's to drool over. So, to get the ball rollin' -

Wow! gotta love that lingual side. I haven't paid too much attention to the GW's yet

since where I'm at they would most likely still be using their teeth. :D

Thanks for the post

It's hard to remember why you drained the swamp when your surrounded by alligators.

LOL. I know that you've gone digging with Mike before so you know what I'm talking about. And if you move more earth than he does then it's no wonder that place isn't producing teeth like it used to produce... ;)

Mike and I are one and the same when it comes to that. We dig together often and sometimes there ends up being two or more huge spoil piles.

My 2 3/4" GW next to the 3". Mike was with me when I found this one.

I thought I'd add one of my larger whites to this club.

3 1/32" lower

I'll try and add a scaled photo eventually, but I tossed it on my caliper so I know its over 3.

This is by far my largest lower, and even though its a little worn this is one of my favorites. It was found at an unnamed, nondescript locality on the west coast.
