Need Fossil Id

I have a fossil that I found that I don't know what it is. I found it in Perry County PA. It's Middle Devonian, limestone & shale mix. The fossil itself is a little bigger than a half dollar.

It kind of looks like maybe an anenome, maybe? I would appreciate any and all help. Thank you!

Think it's a Favosites turbinatus, not uncommon. Good specimen.

Edited, oops, he's correct. Not my area of interest. Got the name wrong. I have a herd of those.

I know I've seen this before - it's the same as Shamalama's avatar!

I agree. - Pleurodictyum - a tabulate coral.

Regards,

EDIT - Don't feel bad, John, I was wracking my brain for the name of it, when Squalicorax nailed it. :P

Thank you for the help! I'm kinda new at trying to figure out what some of these fossils are. Is there a good website to help me identify these? Or a book perhaps?

Get a copy of Fossil Collecting in Pennsylvania from the Geological Survey. There is (or perhaps was) a good Mahantango book on their site also.

Judy,

Also, the National Audobon Field Guide to Fossils of North America. is another good one.

Look for PDF files online - by Googling "fossils + Pennsylvania + PDF".

Google Books had some electronic copies of "Index fossils of North America" for a while there.

Dont know if you found THIS ONE?

Another helpful link . :)

Also this website is somewhat helpful in a general manner.

One more - Just thought I'd mention how great and informative Shamalama's blog is.

The link that Squalicorax gave you is the link to "Views of the Mahantango".

Hope this helps.

Regards,
