mzkleen
I have a fossil that I found that I don't know what it is. I found it in Perry County PA. It's Middle Devonian, limestone & shale mix. The fossil itself is a little bigger than a half dollar. It kind of looks like maybe an anenome, maybe? I would appreciate any and all help. Thank you! flyguy784
Think it's a Favosites turbinatus, not uncommon. Good specimen. Edited, oops, he's correct. Not my area of interest. Got the name wrong. I have a herd of those. Edited April 24, 2012 by flyguy784
Fossildude19
I know I've seen this before - it's the same as Shamalama's avatar! I agree. - Pleurodictyum - a tabulate coral. Regards, EDIT - Don't feel bad, John, I was wracking my brain for the name of it, when Squalicorax nailed it. mzkleen
Thank you for the help! I'm kinda new at trying to figure out what some of these fossils are. Is there a good website to help me identify these? Or a book perhaps? Judy

Plax
Get a copy of Fossil Collecting in Pennsylvania from the Geological Survey. There is (or perhaps was) a good Mahantango book on their site also.

Fossildude19
Thank you for the help! I'm kinda new at trying to figure out what some of these fossils are. Is there a good website to help me identify these? Or a book perhaps? Judy Judy, Also, the National Audobon Field Guide to Fossils of North America. is another good one. Look for PDF files online - by Googling "fossils + Pennsylvania + PDF". Google Books had some electronic copies of "Index fossils of North America" for a while there. Dont know if you found THIS ONE? Another helpful link . Also this website is somewhat helpful in a general manner. One more - Just thought I'd mention how great and informative Shamalama's blog is. The link that Squalicorax gave you is the link to "Views of the Mahantango". Hope this helps.
