Possible Phyllocarid Telson?

Bullsnake

Recommended Posts

While searching for conodonts in black platy shale, I ran across this.

The scale is mm. The conodonts found are ~1mm, so this is much bigger.

Upper Penn.

I think Lansing group, Stanton Ls., Eudora sh.

I'm guessing Phyllocarid telson bristle. Any ideas?

Not sure Steve- but that is cool looking! :)

Any crinoid stuff around where this was found?

Could it be a spine of some sort?

Well spotted, sir!

Regards,

We have plenty of crinoid stuff around here, Tim. Phyllocarid was my best guess, and only a guess. I suppose it could be a piece of anything, and was just hoping someone might recognize it as something.

From what Missourian has said, these black platy shales here are deepwater shales.

I'm not holding my breath on an id, just thought I would present a challenge ^_^ . I even considered a plant fragment that drifted to the bottom.

Were you thinking a crinoid spine?

Thanks for the reply!

Doesn't look like the crinoid spine that was posted recently. (Who posted that,...was it Kehbe? Can't remember!)

I have no idea Steve - was just throwing that idea out there.

Could be phyllocarid - or plant, or,... ok... I'll zip it now! :)
