My dad and I went digging and snorkeling on the Alapaha River near Statenville, GA today and found a lot of petrified wood as well as some shark teeth!

Thank you! I was really excited to find it, I can't find any info on it though, I'm wanting to find the age of it.

I'm from Statenville. I have found tons of petrified wood, and tons of what I think are dugong bones, but only a few sharks teeth. Do you live in the area? It would be neat to know someone else that is interested in fossiling. I've found echinoids, snails, and a bivalve or two in the Suwannee river near Jasper. As for the age of the wood, I am not sure but there is a wiki article on the Statenville formation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statenville_Formation

I live about 45 minutes north of Statenville, in Nashville. I didn't find any dugong bones, that's pretty interesting! The river is a little high right now but I'm wanting to go back when the water goes down, maybe we could get together and do some fossil hunting sometime?
