I finally got around to prepping this crinoid. It's my best crinoid from the site. It's also the only one like it i've found. Any guesses would be appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

I am not great with crinoids, but it looks like you have a nice glass sponge to the left of it.

looks like an Onychocrinus but the stem looks unusual and the glass sponge, Dictospongia??, is great

how many inches or cm is the crown and stem???

Also the stem is 2 inches long.

I agree definitely an Onychocrinus, I have a few from Crawfordsville, Indiana and we also find them in SW Illinois.

Is the stalk usually so big (thick) in relation to the size of the calyx in Onychocrinus? That almost looks like a regenerating head, it seems so small compared to the stalk.

It does seem to be odd in size relative to the head. You might be right it could be a regenerating head or something, interesting point!

Bumping for interest

I'm not a crinoid expert.

Never heard of regenerating heads on crinoids.

Its understood arms can be regenerated and that

might be what was suggested.

To my old eyes the arms do not look out of proportion.

My first impression is the stem has a "puffy" appearance

instead of just appearing out of proportion to the head

which brings in-life parasitic attacks or injury and healing to mind.
