Napoleon North
He wants to buy at some stores this piece. Is it a piece of mammoth tooth? Dimensions: 23mm 15mm 7mm
Hemi-God
It looks to me as if it might be a fragment of mammoth tooth. I would think perhaps a piece of the root. But it is possible that it's something else entirely. Let's see what the more experienced have to say. .. *NOT an expert.I haven't a clue what I'm doing. But I'm loving every minute of it. .. sward
The shape reminds me of a single section from a mammoth tooth, but the outer material looks like quartz to me. Could you post some more pics in sunlight, particularly of the "broken" end? SWardSoutheast Missouri (formerly Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX) USA

Fruitbat
To be frank...while the shape looks right to be part of the root...I agree with sward that the composition of the 'enamel' doesn't look right. I would vote 'NO'. Besides...there are MUCH nicer sections of mammoth tooth available at reasonable prices. -Joe Illigitimati non carborundum Fruitbat's PDF Library

But this is of Polish and I collect mainly national specimens.

Harry Pristis
That appears to be a mammoth "spit tooth" . . . the last nubbin of a worn tooth that is ejected from the jaw. http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
