Joyce
Is this a mammal tooth or a broken vertebrae? I assumed it was a vertibrae because of the tiny hole in the middle!
Scylla
It doesn't look vert like to me, could be a fish tooth too. we need more angles and scale to see it better.
Joyce
I'm adding some additional pictures. I got it from every angle I could and used a penny and cm measuring rule (for those who prefer one or the other). Most of the pictures are decently clear but I'm using a camera phone so.....here goes. Thanks again!!!!!!!!

Joyce
Where the previous set was mostly on the ends, I tried to cover all sides and angles.

Joyce
I thought it was a vert but with the pedicles broken/bitten off. And with that tiny hole that runs all the way through the middle.
Joyce
I checked out the one on here http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php/topic/22365-fossil-ear-bone/ but it doesn't look like that. Any other suggestions??
RickCalif
Looks like a periotic bone from a dolphin that shows some wear Edited November 9, 2012 by RickCalif
sixgill pete
It could be an extremely worn Periotic bone, but I would not bet the bank on it. However, I do not see vert either. If I had only the choice between the two, I would say Periotic bone. The fact is, it may be to worn to ever ID positively.
