My friend just returned from a holiday in Scotland (didn't go fossil hunting though).

I know that a certain shale creek bed near Glasgow produces fish fossils (notably a complete Stethacanthus shark was found there), bit i'm a bit vague on the details. Do you have a geological map of Scotland? I find them very handy for choosing sites to go hunting. Picking a spot that's the right rock type and age for fossils is a must!

Sorry i couldn't be of more help.

Hello Ailsa,

Not sure if you ran across THIS WEBSITE in your searches?? Sorry if it is redundant.

A simple Google search for "where to fossil hunt in Scotland" gave me a bunch of results.

Also search for "fossil localities Scotland".

Hope this helps. :)

Regards,

I did have a look there but those are all in the highlands the only place I found was strawberry wood near Edinburgh? My dad might be taking me there soon but I'll keep looking just want to see if anyone from Scotland or has visited knows of anywhere that isn't posted on those sites.

Here are a couple of locations -

Stockdale Quarry - Cumbria http://www.stockdale...kfossils.co.uk/

Whitehaven http://www.whitehavenfossils.co.uk/

Seaton Sluice http://www.seatonslu...kfossils.co.uk/

Here are some in south Scotland, Lady Burn is now closed though which is a shame, as some people came along and did lots of damage to the sight. http://www.ukfossils...h Scotland.html
