TCallens Posted August 17, 2012 Share Posted August 17, 2012 I used to be really involved in my college geology club. We went a lake spillway in/near DFW that allowed fossil hunting. I cannot remember the name of the lake. I think it was a cretaceous sea bed with plenty of gastropods and bivalves lying around. bone2stone Posted August 17, 2012 Share Posted August 17, 2012 Yep Benbrook, That spillway is one of the areas that several Dallas Paleo members frequent. I still manage to come out of there with something every time. Mostly Salenia Mexicana and shark teeth with a few ammonite partials "Oxytropidoceras" from time to time. Sometimes you can find a complete Oxy but rarely. It pretty much stays picked clean unless you can catch it after a very heavy rain. Good place to spend an afternoon with friends, It has grown over in a lot of the area, so don't be too dissapointed if you make it out there.
