Hunting Spots In East Texas Area?

Recommended Posts

discsnstones

Heading out to East Texas near Tyler in a few weeks on business. Wondering if there are any decent places to do some hunting? I think I will have enough time to drive within an hour of Tyler if needed. Don't need any petrified wood, but would love to maybe hunt some shark teeth or ?????? Ideas please as I don't know the area. Any help is appreciated.

From Tyler you're not TOO far from the Sulphur River. I've had pretty good luck with shark teeth (mostly small) by scouring the gravel beds at the Hwy 24 bridge over the North Sulphur River to the North of Commerce, TX. There are also abundant Exogyra shells, occasional mosasaur bits and plenty of Pleistocene mammal teeth (usually just fragments).

On highway 69 drive down to Jacksonville. Before getting to the high point at loves lookout you will see big cliffs on either side of road. Here you will find sea life fossils and black shark teeth.

Here are the pics of some of what I found today: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjE6zH6x
