Tooth, Urchin Spine? Found In Ordovician, Silurian Area With Small Amount Of Mississipian

My husband found this laying in a wash down area of the formation pictured. It was laying on top of the limestone, just as you see it!

It is very strange, because we have worked this road cut many times, and have never seen a smooth stone.

He found it on the 3 ledge up.

Interesting piece, but it may just be a piece of weathered rock. I'll let the experts chime in with their opinion.

The roadcut does look fasinating. It looks like you could spend alot of time just checking it out closely. Unfortunately, we've got to drive a ways around here to find roadcuts anything like that. But TN is hillier than this part of TX. We do have our advantages though, afterall, it is TX. ;)

Here are two more shots, the one looking up has 4 more ridges above the top, that you cannot see. I finally got to the top left ridge and found a huge Hornets nest and decided to retreat!post-5170-0-18324300-1349094312_thumb.jpgpost-5170-0-13813500-1349094404_thumb.jpg

Nice roadcut, the piece pictured looks to be just a rock, what fossils did you find around the cut, or the hornets are the only fossil collectors on the cut

Several Trilobites, a few nice Corals, Bryzoans, Brachipods, several Ceph's and ton of Knodules that are drying and some really nice mineral specimens!

We wish we had someone with more knowledge to go with us! I am sure we are missing so much more!
