A Toe,a Claw, Horn,a Tooth?

I found this in The Little Miami River basin while kayaking in Cincinnati OH sometime in the early 2000's. It is about 1 inch long and 3/4 wide. It looks to me ( I know little to nothing about fossils) like a toe-nail/claw,horn or tooth. Or not...lol. The back looks to have a vein or bone running thru it. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Jeff,

Welcome from DFW, TX. You've posted this in the right place.

Right now, I'm not seeing anything that looks like a claw or tooth, other than shape, but you've got the specimen in hand.

Sometimes, natural forming/weathering rock shapes can be quite deceiving.

I'll let the experts chime in and continue to see what others have to say.

Keep us posted on your finds.

Close on the horn - it's actually a Rugose coral, also known as Horn Coral. :)

Neat find.
