"The photo in question I am finding out is a cement replica of a crocodile that was placed along the path of the trail. Apparently there are other cement forms of other animals along the same path. I will look further but this info comes from a person who was there when the trail was first opened."

That's a fascinating piece of info uncovered by piranha, that explains a lot. I wonder if the Hx Society folks have any photos of the "animals" as they originally were. I am also now curious in what era this project occurred.

Early in my career I worked at a very large institution that served persons with severe mental disabilities. It was located on a tract of land that contained almost 2000 acres. There were several ponds on the property and fishing was allowed for staff and patients. I once decided to try my luck at the "shallow" end of one pond. I avoided the customary spot with pier near the parking lot and set out through dense woods to where I judged the creeks feeding the impound entered. When I was deep in the woods, I encountered a wheelchair entwined in the undergrowth. It's condition suggested it had been abandoned there for many years. It was a singular, almost surreal experience. I imagine I would have been even more surprised, if it were a concrete croc.

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, also are remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. - Douglas Adams, Last Chance to See

I am glad you all enjoyed the post. I will be hiking again soon if I find anything I will be sure to share that information.
