Here are a couple of foreign language trilobite papers recently published online. The Japanese paper covers the function of terrace ridges, an interesting topic discussed previously at TFF. The Russian paper is a summary on the fauna in the Devonian Baragash Formation, including six unique species of trilobites.

Luckily, both of these papers can be loosely translated by Google Translate. emo73.gif :P

The eodiscids are a fascinating and enigmatic suborder (Eodiscina) of trilobites in the Order Agnostida. One of the great ongoing debates is whether or not the agnostids actually descended from the eodiscids. The current general consensus disagrees as eodiscids are thought to be paedomorphically (retaining juvenile traits) derived from a polymerid (multi-segmented) ancestor. There is mounting evidence that the two groups are not closely related and any similarity is the result of convergent evolution. Notwithstanding the larger debate about agnostids, as they appear to be more crustacean-like and incorrectly placed in the Trilobita. As the eodiscid trilobites hardly get a mention, it seemed useful to add a little background info on these unusual trilobites.
