Some Diprotodon Optatum.

Just some bits i've picked up in the last few years, have a little bit more but didnt take pictures.

First picture is the 2nd and 3rd pic, as it was found.

Great fossils there. Diprotodon is something you don't see everyday. I wonder if any other forum members own Diprotodon fossils, or other Australian giants like Megalania.

Thanks guys. Megalania is in my top 3 for wants! The others are thylacoleo and pallimnarchus (I've come close! Will post that another day though.)

Does anyone know where I can get one of the posters or the Pleistocene fauna of Australia? Haven't check eBay yet. Will have something to tick them off then.

I have a couple that I bought from the Queensland museum in the early 90's but that probably doesn't help you too much.

I recall seeing them in Australian Geographic and on a Riversleigh book that I read.

Heres the rest of my Diprotodon optatum material (not including random sections of bone).

None of it's in great shape, but it is what it is so adding to this thread.

1. Lower incisor (small one)

2 & 3 . Lower jaw section

4 & 5 . Lower jaw where incisors are (one broken off, the other tooth socket gone)

6 & 7 . Lower jaw section, first part of D. optatum i ever found

8 & 9 . Half a tooth i found on a friends property.

EDIT: 10 . 3rd upper incisor.

Well, called up a place I haven't searched in 5 years, talking to the fellow he said he'd found a "tooth or horn, about 5" long". Well, no Aussie critters had horns that I know of so had a fair guess...

Offered to come out ID it, and also got property managers number.

He said sure.

Had a look today. What do you know, D. optatum. Lower incisor, rather water worm.

"Would you like it?"

"If you're offering".

And that's how I got the first lower incisor for my collection =D

There was a fair bit of Diprot material at Beenleigh on the weekend. You are lucky you didn't go (not many fossil dealers, all had the same stuff and it was very overpriced)!
