Ideas For Displaying Fossils

Hmmm, all my reading suggests that longwave UV (blacklight) is not harmful to the eyes, especially when behind glass - hence in an aquarium. SHORTWAVE UV IS harmful to the eyes even in short doses, but again, with the correct glass in between it is not harmful.

This set up is only longwave and you can't see the light itself, just the impact on the fossils and minerals.

Wow, what an inspiring thread. I've been wondering what to do with my growing collection. My dad gave me some boxes too and I thought what a shame to keep them boxed up and stored in the basement. Love the dry aquarium idea! I have a few spares sitting around.

Just a note about putting fossils in a real aquarium with fish and stuff. I did this with my Petoskey stones thinking the water would really make them pop, but being that they're porous, algae and bacteria grew into the crevices and sort of ruined them. Also, calcite can make your water more alkaline. Not something you want if your pH is already on the high side.
