fossiladdict
This post will have several posts underneath due to having larger photos this time around. February was my birthday month and what better way to celebrate my birthday than to convince the family to go fossil hunting with me right?! We headed to the Jacksboro Spillway for a day of hunting. Roz was already there when we arrived and as usual it's always nice to see her. This was the first time that I have ever been to the spillway and it's always a treat/shock when you arrive somewhere you've never been before because 1) you never know what you will find, and 2) you have to adjust yourself to finding the type of fossils that are in the area. In this instance, it was Pennsylvanian fossils, and I am used to searching for fossils from the Cretaceous era so adjustment in the eyes was definitely a must. This is a sample of what I found: It was a beautiful day and I consider myself fortunate just to have had my family hunting with me. The next day, my actual birthday, fossil hunting was not necessarily on the agenda, but I couldn't go the day without finding at least one fossil, so I convinced my husband to take me for a quick trip to the lake (Texoma) and in less than 45 minutes this is what I found: So considering I did pretty good. On to the next trip: Edited March 10, 2013 by fossiladdict Fossils are simply one of the coolest things on earth--discovering them is just marvelous! Makes you all giddy inside! fossiladdict
The next trip involved a trip to Bridgeport with a fellow forum member and it was a pretty exciting day for both of us! This was my first trip to this area as well. Here are some of my finds: Still going.... Fossils are simply one of the coolest things on earth--discovering them is just marvelous! fossiladdict
These were two of my favorite finds from this trip: The tooth is now one of my favorites. The color is what makes it an astounding fossil if you ask me. I would like to know if anyone else has found any that are this blue. This was also another favorite: I also found this partial trilobite: Moving on...my dad came up and spent a weekend with me and we hit several spots in the Bridgeport area as well as several local spots. Following are the finds. Local: Still going: Fossils are simply one of the coolest things on earth--discovering them is just marvelous! Makes you all giddy inside! BobWill
I stand in awe! And it's almost as if you have some knowledge of photography I see you violated the rule about not finding a petalodus on your first trip to Jaxbro but I've decided to forgive (it's just the kinda guy I am). Missourian
Excellent fossils all, but there are a few that stand out.... 1. Is there a chance that that could be a color pattern on the Bellerophon? Or is it remaining shale on the surface? For comparison, here's an Euconospira (Penn.) with remaining color: 2. I can't believe how many beautiful goniatites can be found in the Texas Penn. They are quite scarce in the Midcontinent. 3. I love the sponges. I've never seen a branching Coelocladia before, but then I haven't come across too many yet.... 4. I like the crinoid stems with the offset plates. Edit: 5. I can't believe I didn't mention the blue tooth. Edited March 10, 2013 by Missourian Context is critical.

Texas Fossil Hound
It really makes you appreciate the Pennsylvanian. Over the last year, I have a new facination for crinoid crowns - including their many parts. Your findss are truly wonderful! Thanks for taking the time to photograph and post them. BobWill
Bob- you better look again...try the top row.No, I saw it. My point is that most normal hunters don't find one until the 3rd or 4th trip out there (if ever). Ok the actual law was never passed, it's just a matter of courtesy to the normal among us
