I found this walking on the beach in South Carolina. Can't tell if it is a fossil or a really strange shaped rock. Thinking it is a fossil due to the symmetry of the groves on both sides. Looks like some kind of joint bone or vertebrae. It is heavy like a rock but just seems too symmetrical to be one. Help me out!!post-11446-0-69792300-1364233127_thumb.jpgpost-11446-0-91793900-1364233105_thumb.jpgpost-11446-0-03567900-1364233109_thumb.jpgpost-11446-0-77316200-1364233112_thumb.jpgpost-11446-0-77417600-1364233115_thumb.jpgpost-11446-0-98447600-1364233118_thumb.jpgpost-11446-0-81747300-1364233123_thumb.jpg

It looks very similar to that fossil. I did a little more research on that link and I think you're right. Thanks for the help!

You are welcome! I came across that picture the other day and pulled it back up immediately after seeing your find. Congrats btw and welcome to the forum! :)

Good find!

I found the same fossil casts several times at North Myrtle Beach. They look like turtle head fossils but are bivalves. The link you provided is informative.
