Hi Napoleon,

Did you find this flint on farm land?

It looks a little bit like Meusnes-silex (France) which was often used to make "gunflints" (pierres à fusil).

It is difficult to tell from your pictures if your flint really is Meusnes-silex or a real gunflint.

I do miss (or see) some distinctive features (like the retouche) which could make a 100% identification.

In the scan you see some gunflint of me found in Belgium, shown in an article about gunflints

( "Gunflints", tweehonderd jaar gespecialiseerde vuursteenbewerking uit historische tijden, A.M. Wouters, APAN Extern 195/1996/5)

Free translated: "Gunflints" twohundred years of specialised flint modification from historical times.

In this drawings you can see the retouche characteristic for gunflints in western Europe.

I had a quick look for the original artifacts but could not find them yet, to many boxes :D

When I find them I will add some pictures of those gunflints.

Not very many people do recognise gunflints and they are so often mistaken for small scrapers, so compliments for thinking of this possibility :)

Peter
